Kampala Tag Rugby young leaders Phillip Wokorach and James Ijongat boast of their experiences off the just concluded Salesforce Tag Rugby Tour 2011 in Nairobi. The two youngsters who double as ex tag rugby players were in the neighbouring Kenya on tour for the first time. They spent four days coaching Tag Rugby to kids and adults in a new community. Speaking to Tag Rugby media they opened up about their experience at the Kibagare slum – St.Martins school – and their growth channels from playing Tag Rugby into coaching it.

Phillip Wokorach
Aged 17 years who went to Mbuya Barracks primary school a one time big contender for the Kampala annual grand Tag Rugby festival said “l began playing Tag in 2003 while in primary school,my hard effort payed off well when l was chosen on the Kyadondo team to Twickenham in 2006.

Travelling always adds alot on my experience because after tour l was enrolled for the young leaders course an achievement that has helped me to achieve the best back award for my team stallions 2010, Most valuable player (MVP) national team for schools rugby 2010, Teeniez award top Rugby player 2011 and MVP for the just concluded Black Rock Tournament Kenya although my team narrowly lost in the finals.

For the Salesforce tour it was not just a matter of delivery because from teaching l learnt alot and got new friends too. It was much easier for me dealing with tour training because the set up was more mature than the junior age group l take on every Saturday at the Rugby club” phiilip explained.
James Ijongat
Aged 18 years l began playing Tag Rugby in 2003 in Naguru Katale afew metres from my Rugby club Kampala. The Salesforce tour was a wonderful grooming experience for me and an opportunity to expand on my career as a young leader. I can now brag of excellent coaching and refereeing skills.

l have started deliberating to other young leaders at my club who did not make it to Kenya. Locally l play for Boks Rugby club a junior team to Kobs. Tag Rugby richly equiped me with the basics and is opening up other abilities through going places. I admire our club senior team player Timothy Mudoola’s playing and captaining skills and as my mentor its a path of success lam set to take on for leadership”James narrated.
