TRT Salesforce Tour to Uganda
on Nov 12 in Events, Media, News, Tour, Uganda tagged by Martin TRTRegular corporate foundation TRT partners Salesforce have just completed their second 2011 Tour, this time to Uganda.
With just a week to dedicate to the Tag programme, TRT employees in the Uganda office pulled together a fantastic “new school” training programme that means 4 more schools in Jinja are on the Tag Rugby wagon.
Courtney, Brooke and Lauren teamed up with Dot, Abel, Sky and later Stesh, Annet and Martina (at 10 months old her second Tour – impressive eh !).
The following report came directly from Dot Nekesa (TRT Media) and the team.
Thurs 10th Nov : St.Gonzaga primary school yesterday were crowned Salesforce Tag Rugby champions after edging tough Mpumudde Methodist Primary school 8-6 in the finals of the Tour cup. New schools Lake site, Mpumudde Methodist, Preparatory and St.Gonzaga had under gone a three days training an addition for those that access the Police Tag Rugby training center over the weekends but put up thrilling performances against invited Walukuba West and District defending champions Police primary schools.
Police had become a thorn in the competition before St.Gonzaga humbled them 7-5 to enter a stage that got them squeeze Methodist to settle for second place as Lake Site from the Masese Fishing site area came third.
Four trys from assistant captain Gerald Nadiope, two from Edmond Agata, one each from Derick Kibirige and Eva Kyatelekela carried the trophy to St.Gonzaga school from a sport they have just started playing.
The Salesforce Foundation team who had a switch in tour location from Nairobi to Uganda’s Jinja sighting insecurities in the troubled capital of Kenya did not regret their choice of alteration. Courtney Loomis of the Salesforce Foundation said ” This is incredibly serious how three days of training would give rise to such an excellent competitive exhibition of skills by kids from different walks of life learning how to communicate and appreciate each other’s effort using the game of Tag Rugby.
I have never seen kids with disabilities play competitively like this among the normal kids like the Deaf Kids from Walukuba let alone so observant to derive sign names for everything” Courtney revealed.
The Jinja Tag Rugby Development officer Abel Chadribo and Tag Rugby Teachers Association chairman Walter Kayima thanked the Salesforce team for blessing the District’s new entrant schools with a tour training opportunity that has put them on the same page with the pioneer schools and for choosing Jinja District as the alternative option and a chance to portray the hospitality and friendship the Tag Rugby community in Uganda exceptionally has.
Other Salesforce team Coaches Brooke and Lauren who were attached to the Methodist school could not hide their Joy of seeing their team in the final tie. The Cup will be annual for new Jinja Tag Rugby schools.
