Tag Rugby Trust Shines in Harare
on Nov 22 in Events, Media, News, Zimbabwe tagged by Martin TRTBy Tinashe Shamu
In April 2011 the Tag Rugby Trust introduced tag rugby to over 1000 children in Zimbabwe in places such as Chitungwisa, Hatclife and Manyame all which are in the low densities in the capital Harare. The Trust went on to host a tournament for 170 children who had excelled in the coaching which was conducted.
Since April the local team of Tag Rugby Trust volunteers has made huge steps in promoting the continuation of tag rugby in our Target areas. Last weekend saw a very exciting step in that direction.

On Friday 18 November the Tag Rugby Trust was invited by the Zimbabwe Rugby Union to a site viewing in a small township called Mabvuku in Harare.
The sponsor of the prestigious Zimbabwe National Sevens Team, Spar (www.spar.co.zw), will be funding the revamping of a sports school facility for the purpose of rugby development.
The Trust has been asked to introduce tag rugby in the township using the facility as a hub. This is an exciting prospect for the trust and steps towards engaging the community through tag are under way.
Currently the Zimbabwe Union is processing necessary legal documents through the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and the Zimbabwe Ministry of Sports, Education and Culture to ensure tag can be introduced in all schools in Harare and beyond adhering to officially authorized permission.
As well as that good news, on Saturday 19 November Derek Chiwara and Tinashe Shamu conducted a tag rugby teacher training for 26 community leaders and teachers.

The teacher training was a major success as there were leaders and teachers from all over Harare. When the ground is up and running, all trained will be instrumental in coaching within the tag rugby target areas.
