Tag Rugby in Luanshya
on Jun 02 in News tagged luanshya, nairobi, rugby, tag rugby trust, TRT by RuckinRugbyTag Rugby was officially launched to the community kids of Luanshya at Roan rugby Football club on Saturday 29Th May 2010.m. This was during the National selection trials for the national team which will participate inthe Safaricom 7s in Nairobi.
Roan Antelope rugby club which once boasted of having the tallest rugby posts in the world and played host of many foreign clubs in the 60s 70s & early 80s and national Test matches attracts not less than 40kids under12,14 & boys and girls who come to cheer up the once Nationls 7s rugby kings during league games in the 80s & 90s
The occasion was graced by HE South African High Commissioner to Zambia Mr Jacobs ,ZRFU President Mr Raj Karamachand,Committee Member Mr Tom Chani and Host chairman Mr Micheal Munyoro.
In his speech HE Mr Jacobs, who played rugby as a school boy in the Western Province was impressed with the strides Zambia Rugby Football Union with the corporating partners Tag Rugby Trust are taking in introducing children to rugby in the government schools and underprivileged community at very early age and South African High Commission will assist wherever possible that Zambian Rugby develops to higher levels in Africa.
Thanks to Mary Thindwa and Oliver Mulenga Tag rugby trainers who where introduced to rugby by TRDT in 2006 and have now progressed to IRB accredited Touch Judges and were at hand to run the programme.

Feb 27th, 2011Good to see the work being done to encourage rugby in Zambia. I played for the Roan at Luanshya 1966-1976. Great pitch – great game.
