Ndeke Township Young Leaders steam up holiday Tag Rugby training at Wesley Nyirenda School Grounds.

Ndeke Township which hosts 4 schools (Ndeke, Justin Kabwe, and Wesley Nyirenda & Miseshi) where tag rugby programs started in 2006 has produced close to 100 players playing in various high schools in Kitwe.
4 young leaders Misheck, Bright, Mwakoi & Patrick have initiated a holiday training program at Wesley Nyirenda basic school ground.
Trainings are conducted every day and games are played on Saturday mornings. The sessions have also attracted kids that go to private schools.

One parent who brought her 12 year old boy echoed ‘it’s not fair why is this program not in private schools ‘only kids in government and community schools are benefiting.’ Kit and equipment recently received has made it possible for young leaders to carry on with the coaching programs which they are keeping very well.

The encouraging factor is that they are doing it for the love of the game and do not ask for any financial reward- just the TRT shirt is enough for them.

They are also looking forward to conduct coaching sessions when schools open next month at Beautiful Gate Community school located in Robert Township which is close to Ndeke Township. The impact of tag rugby in Ndeke township is huge as some kids have to a walk 1km to Wesley Nyirenda with their own frozen water bottles as the temperatures at times go up to 24 degrees.

The team leader is Patrick Mushota popularly’ known as chopper at Diggers RFC’ who has kept on with the game. Patrick played in the inaugural Tag Rugby tournament in 2006 for Wesley Nyirenda & for Kitwe Minors U14 which participated in the Inaugural Tour aid U14 Nations cup held in UK in 2007.

He boasts to have been coached by Laura Rookard, Stesh and TRT Trustee Trevor Martingell later on by Mr. ‘T’ Tony Thompson. Ex Lechwe school now in Pietermarizburg.
