Kampala Tag Rugby Festival

The 2010 Tag rugby Tournament preparations kicked off with three weeks coaching in 20 Schools around Kampala. Twenty coaches got involved in the school training with aid from the school sports teachers who had just achieved coaching skills from a one-day tag Rugby workshop. Feed back was excellent with involvement of school Physical education teachers interacting and asking loads of questions from trainers/ facilitators (Denis and Stella), where they did not understand as well as giving in their suggestions.

Game Stores proudly sponsored this year’s Tournament that fielded five new schools alongside the Uganda Rugby union. Game’s Managing Director Dorian Straub who graced the Tournament said Game is proud to be in partnership with a fast growing sport. The Uganda Rugby Union chairman William Blick present said that, the Uganda Rugby Union is impressed with results from the Tag Rugby community work that has in years developed the game of Rugby in the country.

The Tournament kicked off on Friday 18th/ June/ 2010 at Kyadondo Rugby Football Club with 20 schools in attendance. This years Game Store Kampala Grand Tag Rugby Festival had in total 220 kids who got selected to actively represent their respective 20 schools.

Kiswa Primary school being the defending champions was faced with the challenge of maintaining their title. Thrilling action from all schools with tough competition from new entrants colored the day. Ntinda Primary, Summit View, Naguru infant, Kitante and Nakulabye primary schools in attendance for the first time were not distracted by the usual top performers.

Banunule orphanage primary school who have in the years included Tag Rugby in their school curriculum activities, displayed skill and talent against their opponents making their way to the finals that was played by their own A side against B side who lifted the main cup trophy.

Kibuli Police primary school that previously performed averagely brought new effort with females full of enthusiasm fighting tooth to nail to put their name under the plate final cup. On the other hand Naguru infant stood in the way of the usually un stoppable Naguru Katali scooping the bowl final award while Ntinda Primary school who had drawn with Nakulabye junior Orphanage school, won by toss after no scores at sudden death time taking the shield trophy.
